Intelligent Political debate

Do you believe intelligent political debate is possible?

I'm starting to think it may not be as these days both parties speak in phrases (or memes) meant to stir emotions instead of thoughts...

It is always possible but it should be viewed the same as religious debate.
You'll find any number of people who will happily debate but around those you'll find even more who either have a fundamentalist final line beyond which they won't be willing to argue and others who believe that the only reason to argue is to prove their point.
They are not interested in considering what you have to say just in making you submit to their point of view.

In all reality I have lost all faith in either political party, theres alot of finger pointing and alot of blame on both sides, we all know the system is broken but no one on either side of the fence can provide a way to fix it, there are too many republicans promising to fix what they can't fix and too many democrats promising to give us what can't be given, both sides demonize anyone who thinks differently from what the see as part of their agenday and neither side takes the time to listen to the people who put them in office I'd personally love to see a debate that doesn't go into a rant about "republicans what to take away your benefits and make your elderly eat cat food!" and "Democrats want to bankrupt your grand children and sell us all to China!" anyways thats my point of view thanks for your time and thanks for reading my comment you do great work on Working Daze keep it up and thanks for making me smile before work every day :)

It depends on the people in the debate. I think it's got to be tough, especially when both sides emphasize their points to the point where it's hard to tell what's really true.

Sadly, Americans (in general) have been purposely taught NOT to think, but to feel and emote. Look at pop culture and what is taught in public school today. Can you say 1984? Only those who have taken the time to educate themselves can have an "intelligent" political debate these days and there simply isn't that many educated people out there anymore.
