Well, I've been good by NOT acting like Rita! :)

I,m not gonna say if Ive been naughty or nice but I will say this is the best strip out there.
I have to read this each day before I actually start my office job and it reminds me of my office.
One more thing the world of warcraft and Roy riffs are fantastic. For The Horde!

Unknown said...

If I only had Dana's powers...I surely would not be on Santa's good list. I do my best to blend in as a normal office worker, but every once & occasionally my inner Roy shows...(the Star Trek side that is)

I've been good by playing World of Warcraft with my fiance more regularly and now I'm a half-box away from leveling to 70!!!! Just in time to get the expansion for Christmas. And yes, I am becoming geekier every day living with my computer fixin'-MMO playin'-Wow Obsessed-fiance!

I have been really good this year - I was a humble but efficient data captain for the BIG O out here in California! I also teach Pop Culture and you guys are really the pops!

I love this comic. I have a friend who works in IT and I send him links to it occasionally.

Read you every day. :)

I love your comics! I am Brazilian and work in IT and I see the same problems happening here!

I've been good, I have even stayed off Ebay since my wife put the block on. I had to bid on the Martin Nodell piece, the ring called to me, must battle the evil, and no evil can hide from the Lantern's light! Sorry for the outburst it will take hours of Animal Crossing to calm me down. Well, see you at the Con, I'll be the guy in the Elektra shirt with my red headed sidekick who holds the gold.

Hey, I only recently discovered your comic strip, and I LOVE it! My brother works in IT and I have become a geek through osmosis (mainly him talking me through simple fixes over the phone because he is so busy). I have been a good girl. I have not spilled anything on my keyboard, monitor, or CPU in AGES. I have taught my husband NOT to bang the mouse when things are not working as fast as he would like (we had to go through several mouses for this lesson to sink in). I don't play WOW but I know what it is, which is amazing for a 47 yo female who doesn't get out much. I really don't need your mug, so I don't expect to win it, but I just thought I would drop in and say hello. Oh, I was a graphic and web designer for a long time (still do it on the side as a hobby) so I had a good laugh when the website was to be redesigned in a ridiculously short time frame. LOL. Sooo True! (I am just an artist now, when I am not being a housewife and a mom).

I've been super good by letting my hubby be all the geek he can be. And he's been good because he let's me believe that I have any control over the matter!! (and I haven't tripped the "Rita" in my life yet when she walks by my cube!)

How have I been a geek this year. Its simple, I read Working Daze to pass the time while I wait for my WoW characters to fly between cities :)

Unknown said...

My IT job was eliminated from the budget a couple years ago, but between my otaku fiancee, Ubuntu, and Working Daze I'm keeping my geek cred up to date. Does watching "Chuck" online count for extra credit??

Unknown said...

roy, bad foot odor, and warcraft. I only faked sick to play wow a few daze this year, so i guess that makes me a fairly good geek.

The fact that you haven't resorted to bringing in any cute animals says wonders about how hard you're willing to work

I read your comic stip every single morning. It always puts a smile on my face. I'm on the computer from early morning to late at night so I've been a very good geeky girl this year. I'm looking forward to the Working Daze Christmas Party!

Mary-Frances said...

I play world of warcraft and read your comic religiously (it even gets forwarded to my bookkeeper who also plays wow).
It's true - women (and REAL women) play wow!

Unknown said...

I've been a good geek this year. This comic is so true to life in my office. Keep them coming!

Kleineganz said...

I've been a good geek by attending the Intel LAN fest twice this year just to get a chance to try out the WoW tourney servers, and attending StarFest in Denver dressed in my Stargate SG-1 costume (I went as "Sam Carter"). Wore the same costume again for Halloween.

To top it off I ordered WotLK from Amazon.com and had it delivered the day it came out so I could start playing as soon as I got home that day.

Unknown said...

I don't know if any of this actually makes me a geek , but I gotta try for the mug!! I haven't missed an episode of Chuck, Heros, Stargate Atlantis or Eureka. I have been religious in my reading of Working Daze. I gave up my European vacation this year to buy a new MacBook Pro. Because I do video editing as a hobby, I decided to soup it up with 4 gigs of RAM and went for the 17 in. glossy screen, looks great, works even better. I have actually made myself an avatar for my Messenger. I have started a blog and posted videos on youtube. I'm not sure if I'm a geek or just an overactive loser, but I'm enjoying life and reading Working Daze.

Unknown said...

I'm writing this about a "great" geek gal (friend of mine) who's put up with all sorts of "a geek girl in a union shop?!?!?!?" comments at a major data-center this year, proving herself over and over again to the point where she finally was hired on and able to show who the "true geek is".

Nicoley said...

ive been good by not asking normal "whos that? whats he doing? whats that girl's name?" type questions that most girlfriends do while watching my man's geek show with him...i accepted i would never watch the show on my own so didnt really need to know the plot enough to annoy him... becuase i care <3 lmao

that counts right?

Jesse Cat said...

I have been a good geek because instead of meeting girls I am at home playing video games : ) and I also restored 2 old systems and donated them : )

I dressed up as a Night Elf Hunter with a Human Female Mask on for Halloween. I had a small bag labeled "Gigantique" with a "non combat pet" and labeled "treats" in it with their damage/power/stamina increases.

Anyone who wasn't dressed up at work got slapped with a "Human Female Mask" or "Human Male Mask" label.

And I have various Working Daze cartoons pinned up on my board at work!

I was a very good geek this week, as I helped my non-techie friend get all the spyware off of his computer. It was so bad that it would almost lockup anytime you opened IE.

I've been a VERY GOOD geek this year; rewarded with a job after being laid-off for eighteen months a non typical IT job as it is in a high school providing technical support to the teachers...SWEET!

Are you doing new strips? They all seem like they are a few years old.

From the home office in Fort Apache, NY, the top 10 reasons that I have been a good geek this year:

10) Renewed 2 of my tech certs and didn't even need to study for the tests.

9) Haven't had a haircut in around 6 months.

8) Installed an IM client (pidgin/OTR) with an encryption plugin just because. Even though there is generally nothing more interesting than insults aimed at users or the boss in my conversations.

7) Read an NSA whitepaper regarding long range internet security infrastructure planning... on my own time - out of curiosity alone.

6) Helped build a PC out of used and spare parts for an acquaintance who is a single mother and was out of work at the time.

5) Showed another acquaintance how to use a Wi-fi repeater to steal a connection from the hotel across from his home.

4) Claimed a G4 Mac from my job that was going to be trashed, just because it was a free computer.

3) Fell off of the "no video games" wagon and installed an SNES emulator on my laptop.

2) Gave both Future Shock by Alvin Toffler and Neuromancer as gifts.

1) Broke my own personal record for most helpdesk tickets resolved in a single week 3x this year. =)

Well, I've been a good geek and regular person.

I'm thinking about buying a new Mac Book as they are green. Or from the other side, it's a great ad campaign designed those of us who want to change the world one dollar at a time.

I've come to terms with the new style of artwork in your comic, even come to love it.

Archer is still the best Captain as he was the closest (in personality) to Kirk. Or maybe I was just a big fan of Quantum Leap.

Unknown said...

Well Working Daze is a very good comic. I'm now a local fan. Well besides working and letting a little of my technical side (geek side) show at work. I've been good with trying to keep things in good working order .

Roxanne Greene said...

Love your comic, my husband is the geek and doesn't see himself as that at at all. He has converted our dining room into a mini-electronics lab complete with o-scopes and soldering iron. I have to check for fallen capacitors and other little parts before I vacuum. I let him do this so he could spend more time with the family. LOL! When he is not soldering and testing, he is playing online games and I don't interrupt. I only get a little upset when his testing blows the circuit breaker and I'm cooking dinner. After all that, I think he deserves the mug because actually, he is working so hard. Thanks and keep up the funny stuff.

Unknown said...

Note to mjholt: Yes we are doing new strips still though we do occasionally recycle old ones due to: 1) Scott drew a bunch to get the feel of the characters 2) we (mostly me) am running late so we need to remake a classic 3) MOST LIKELY I simply have forgotten I've done that one before. (This has happened more and more once I broke that magic 50's mark. Just like I forgot about poor captain Archer.)

I was the architect of a petition to keep Vista out of the office. We won, but I lost my job.

For now I am using my Autocadd to make patterns (aka Dwgs) for everything from quilts to Catapaults, (belong to the SCA). Hey it keeps me out of trouble, but since I cannot afford my WOW account, I had to let it laps. I need to pay the mortgage and put gas in the car.
I'm still in Mourning.

I've been very Dana Like this year. Thank you for bringing me a bit of truth every morning.

I have been reading Working Daze religiously for so long I can not remember a time without it. I often take my laptop down to my husband in his WoW dungeon and it brings a chuckle to his face the geek that he is. We have our own little geek in training and I think he will be learning to read off your comic.

I manage to buy food for hungry people even though I'm on welfare myself. God said to.

I'm not very geeky. We are down to only 7 computers (not counting the server) in the foyer now. I am so ashamed. Maybe for Christmas there will be 3 more under the tree?

Unknown said...

I found your strip not too long ago. I left the world of IT to become a kindergarten teacher (trying to infuse new IT nerds early)! My hubby is such a geek also. It comes in handy at work to talk to our network manager and the help desk. My principal was so impressed with my geekiness ;-).

Have a great day!

KF said...

I've been a good Geek this year because I've served as the unpaid SysOp at home without whining too much.
Thanks for a great strip!

Guess i've been a good geek by not missing your comic, which is great - and trying to be a decent person by volunteering at our local elementary school, since i'm retired! Thsnks for all the chuckles, and Merry Christmas to all!

Tony said...

I am a self made geek. I rebuild computers at home for fun. I have a seven computer network in my two bedroom condo, and still have two more to redo.

Dan said...

My kids tell me I am a pretty big geek almost every day, so that counts for something. My wife is certain of it and I have no doubt that my co-workers consider me a geek as well. And I try hard not to read the strip at work, but geekiness wins out too often! Thanks for the laughs!

Mary Gail said...

Believe it or not I have been very good this year by staying out of everybody else's hair!! I have ADHD and seem to have a way of driving everybody else crazy!! I just be myself!! This year I have changed all that!! I'm retired and stay at home!!

Brian M said...

OK, I'm a geek too! I confess!
I just stumbled across your comic online when my local Sunday newspaper did not include the funnies.
So, just give me the mug, and nobody gets hurt!
Although, I have to wonder who Rita is in the very first comment...

I really enjoy your strip which I found over a year ago while in a job search. It really talked to me during that time and I have continued to enjoy it each day. I wish I had some of the special powers 'turn people to dust', hypnotic stares, etc. It could really come in handy on some days. I love all the wonderful references to today pop culture with 'World of WarCraft', Star Trek, PC and Apple. The 'you could be a geek' strips have been found hanging from several co-workers cubes at the office and I think you exceed 'Dilbert' in content most days. Keep putting a smile on my face for some time to come and best wishes for the upcoming holiday season

Well, besides reading Working Daze daily, I've been a good little geek by befriending John on Facebook. Joined Facebook in the first place to keep tabs on Beloved Daughter and Wonderful Nephew. (Daughter thinks this is wonderful or weird, depending on the day of the week...)Learned how to use Revo Uninstaller, and been playing with new software from GiveawayOfTheDay.com - lots of neat-o stuff there! Got a new phone and a new cordless keyboard and mouse setup by beta-testing them. Did I mention that I read Working Daze daily? And Captain Sisko rules, man - I don't care what the poll says - I remenber Avery Brooks from Rutgers and that man can act, even when the producers throw silly stuff like the "Emmisary" crap at him! Now I'm going to go debate that topic with Roy...

I have been a good geek by maintaining excellent PC security with my home network. The pride and joy at the center of it all is my home built Linux Router (466mhtz celeron and 160mb RAM). My PC remains safe from hackers, crackers, and others that wish to do me harm. I also have yet to buy into the iPhone craze yet either. I want a G1!

I used to work for a mortgage banking company, and this comic reminds me of that job. The Vice President there even looks like the boss Rita from the cartoon :). I've been good this year by not letting bosses like her get to me. Love the comic btw!

I've been a very good geek this year...

Unknown said...

I've been good.
*I help my computer illiterate boss all the time with any issue she tends to have.
*I'm trying to refurbish my PC from 2001 (still runs, but has many glitches!) to donate to a single mom of 4 kids.
*I give my left over food to the homeless people on my way home.
*I call my mom every other day! And my grandmother once a week!
*I read your comic every day and email most of them to my step-dad.

Unknown said...

Love the strip, its great! As to naughty or nice, well, who knows. I certainly don't. Good luck for the New Year!

Unknown said...

I gave my geeky husband a G1 for Christmas, he is still not recovered from the joy yet.

Unknown said...

Of course I have been a good Geek. I have made the users feel completely useless and unable to understand anything I say about their computer problems. And always make sure that it is their own fault for the computer malfunction.

I have even worked harder this year in the correct Techie greetings for all users. “Hello and what have you done now?” See I am very proud of the fact that this year I added the “Hello” part all by my self. Even though this was prompted by my second visit to the HRO office.

I tore myself away from a really interesting bug in a lisp program to shovel my sidewalk.

Unknown said...

The reasons I've been a good little geek this year...

I'm spreading the geekdom.

I teach science, am the science club sponsor, do engineering as an extracurricular club, and when we had (yes, already!) the Christmas party for the science club, we had an X-Box 360 hooked up to a 50" bigscreen, a Wii to a 32", and a PS3 to a 25" all in my room at school. AND while they were battling it out on the games, I had 2 computers cracked open upgrading and transferring files.

When we did our "dirty Santa" gift exchange, 80% of the gifts were related to either Star Wars or Star Trek. The rest were candy or food...

I love your strip, and have passed it on to the students in my classes.

I have been very nice, I do all I can to help my Mac user boss, I even gave him one of my old PCs and a laptop so he could run some programes that his Mac just can't do. I also have been know to share the working days comice with him from time to time... and even put them up on the PC we both have to use from time to time.

I have actually sold my motorcycle, so that I could free up enough money to make a house payment on a house my wife likes that I don't particularly care for. I think I should get the mug

Dan said...

You know, looking at all these posts, and thinking about the economy, I think we ALL deserve a mug!

Johnzakour said...

Yes you all do deserve a MUG but speaking of that economy I certainly can't afford to give everybody a mug. The shipping and handling alone would break my budget.
